POSAC members are encouraged to attend. Boulder County Parks & Open Space has been awarding small research grants for 23 years. One of the presenters tonight, Matt Rand, was awarded a grant in 2013 and again this year for his research. BCPOS has received three NACo Achievement Awards, in 2021 for the Redbelly Dace project and the Tucker acquisition and in 2022 for Cal-Wood Fire restoration. We are renewing 29 agricultural leases this year. These leases cover about 3,700 acres. Boulder County Public Works department is working on Sugarloaf Road and they will periodically close the road Aug. 12-Sep 9, which impacts travel to Betasso Preserve. We’ll send alerts out on social media. The BOCC is considering which sales tax measures to put on November’s ballot. One topic being considered is for improvements to wildfire management. The BOCC will have a public hearing on this topic on Aug. 4 at 3 p.m. BCPOS received a $1m forest restoration grant for the Hall Ranch area. We partnered with City of Longmont, Lefthand Water Shed District, Boulder Valley and Longmont Conservation District in this effort. Our new Senior Forester is Devon Oesterling. POSAC will attend a site visit on August 25 to see the Sherwood Forestry Project. There is a newly remodeled Volunteer Naturalist Center at Walden Ponds Wildlife Habitat. After the 2013 flood, 44 properties were entered into a flood buyout program. Some of those became county open space. Others are planned to be transferred neighboring municipalities. One property was just transferred to the Salina community.
