Tony Lewis asked when the hearing room will be ready to resume in person meetings.

Therese responded that May looks hopeful. We're waiting on new audio and visual equipment.

Tony Lewis asked about upcoming field trips.

Therese Glowacki responded that a trip to Heil Valley Ranch with the commissioners is scheduled on May 26. We'll send a poll to find three additional dates for site visits.

Public Comments:

Jay Epstein, 1871 Queens Dr., Longmont. He supports allowing greater access for e-bikes.

Jeff Hainline, 6723 Snead Ct., Longmont. He would like to see a study of Class 1 e-bikes on foothills and mountain trails.

Art Schwadron, 2625 Tabriz Pl D-22, Boulder. He would like to see e-bikes allowed on foothill trails.

Tom McKinnon, 2218 Mapleton Ave., Boulder. He would like to see better access on trails for e-bikes.

Director's Update
 

  • The Boulder County Commissioners have approved all the real estate deals recommended by POSAC, including Wallace and Plum acquisitions and the Camp Tahosa CE.
  • The Sherwood forestry contract is wrapping up and will include summer participation of Youth Corps and the Sheriff’s Office Fire Crew.
  • We hope to reopen Heil Valley Ranch the end of May. We’ll soon start planting 4,000 trees using volunteers. BCPOS Grounds crew are working to finish up work on the structures and trailheads at Heil Valley Ranch.
  • Agricultural ditches will turn on this spring. Staff and volunteers are monitoring those ditches that are Preble’s Jumping Mouse habitat.
  • Spring Break Adventure for families has launched. bouldercounty.org/open-space/activities/spring-adventure/
  • Agricultural Heritage Center opens for the season on April 1.
  • There will be a third release of Redbelly Dace. 
  • Our wildlife staff will be recognized for their collaborative efforts to reintroduce the Redbelly Dace at the Denver Zoo on May 20 which is Endangered Species Day. 
  • Trail closures due to muddy conditions are frequent this time of year – Know Before You Go, so please check to make sure trails are open before venturing out.
  • Artist-in-Residence program uses the historic barn at Caribou Ranch. We have a mouse problem this year, so our Buildings and Historic Preservation staff is improving and reinforcing the doors.
  • BCPOS applied for a grant for the 104th Street Trail as part of the CHP/RCF Management Plan Update, but we didn’t receive any grant money for the project. We are moving forward with a slightly modified plan.
